In July 2025, China Electric Power Equipment And Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of State Grid, officially signed the EPC contract for ±500 kV HVDC VSC Converter Stations for COA-SOA/COA-WOA Link Project in Saudi Arabia with the Saudi Electricity Company. As the logistics carrier for the project, Rongtua Shipping Group facilitated the first full-chain "export" of China's proprietary high-end flexible DC power transmission technology, delivering another exemplary model of high-quality logistics services for infrastructure connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative.

As a key national project under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, this project is currently the world's largest flexible DC project using hybrid bridge topology outside of China, in terms of voltage level and transmission capacity. It will drive the export of over RMB 10 billion worth of domestic production capacity, achieving integrated output of technical standards, core equipment, and engineering services. The project employs Chinese complete-design solutions and key core equipment, promoting industrial upgrades in semiconductor devices and high-end electrical equipment, while also advancing the localization of Chinese DC equipment manufacturers in Saudi Arabia.

• Project Scale: Construction of a total of four ±500 kV VSC-HVDC converter stations in Riyadh, Jizan, and Jeddah, with an aggregate transmission capacity of 7,000 MW.
• Equipment Transport: Cross-border transportation of 160 oversized pieces of equipment, including 14 massive 370-ton converter transformers, 26 converter transformers weighing 283 tons each, and 120 other items such as bridge reactors and converter reactors weighing 80 tons or less. Domestic ports involved include Tianjin, Lianyungang, Shanghai, and Nansha, while Saudi ports include Dammam, Jubail, Jeddah, and Jizan. There are a total of 8 project sites within Saudi Arabia.
• Rongtua's Solution: Given the project's high complexity and stringent specifications, Rongtua mobilized a dedicated team of nearly 20 experts to implement end-to-end escort services from factory to port to site, setting a new standard for precision heavy-lift logistics services in the Middle East.

As of mid-September, the project has entered a critical implementation phase and is expected to complete system commissioning by the end of 2026. Upon completion, it will meet the electricity demands of 13 million people in Saudi Arabia, setting a golden benchmark for "China-Saudi Arabia production capacity cooperation." Rongtua Shipping Group will continue to leverage its leadership in international heavy-lift logistics to contribute further to Belt and Road infrastructure development.
